I really like how you accentuate your quotes using a different color font. It really differentiates between your textual analysis and the support from outside sources.

It's nice to live in a place where these choices come so easily. It is interesting that the astrologer in the book foretold her life as one of widowhood and exile...perhaps her exile is her being in the United States, and not an exile of negative connotations, as if she was banished. She may have CHOSEN a life of exile

A very nice title I must say. It definitely grabs the attention of the reader, especially those who came upon it by accident, perhaps not knowing this blog was about "An Artist Of The Floating World" and thought you had just mistyped your title like some kind of amateur.

"A Natural Resource Deplete Our Annual Incomes" ...this is a very scary notion that we have grown so dependant upon something we hope will be abundant, and instead, it is draining all of our wallets. Thank god almost everywhere in Chico is bikeable...until it's 115 degrees

It definitely didn't even cross my mind to use the Romeo and Juliet example as to "What's In A Name." This example made your blog unique, as I noticed that this week there were MANY blogs entitled "What's In A Name?"

I first chuckled at the thought of finding love in 5th grade...then you caught me off guard with what followed. In this blog you have certainly nailed what it is to "bait and hook" your reader with a clever introduction.

You seem to have a very good textual grasp on the story, and much like you the jumping around doesn't bother me too much, in fact I believe it keeps you involved because you are constantly discovering new things about the main character.

It is interesting that you believe that Jyoti has chosen to be an "exile" when this is the very prophecy she swore to avoid as a child. I didn't think of her as an exile in Iowa but now that you pointed that out, not only do I see how her abandonment of Indian values has exiled her from her own belief systems, but also, because she is unmarried then this could possibly be interpreted as a form of "widowhood" another aspect of the astrologer's prophecy.

I definately agree that although a culture shock may exist in a move from New York City to rural Iowa, I believe it to be uncomparable to the culture shock associated with moving from India to the United States. Ideally I would like to think as the United States as the "creme de la creme" however our customs and way of life may not reflect an idealistic society to foreigners. I think that is nice that other cultures have learned to create a hybrid way of living where they embrace US Cultures while maintaining some of their own.
